Phone Pals: One Year Later
To help ease the isolation of the pandemic, SGSNY launched the Phone Pal initiative in April 2020, pairing volunteer callers with our senior beneficiaries. Volunteer Nichola Taylor reflects on her experience—one year later.
Meet Victoria
As the mother of two young girls, working and studying full-time, Victoria already had a lot on her plate. Then COVID-19 happened. Her scholarship from St. George’s Society of New York was a relief and reinforcement—putting her one step closer to becoming a social worker.
2021 Membership Updates
In a continuation of the changes to St. George’s Society of New York’s membership admission and structure, the previously proposed fees increase at the General and Patron levels will go into effect beginning 1 April 2021.
Our New Home
After nearly two decades in our office at East 45th, we are relocating to a new permanent home at 866 United Nations Plaza. While renovations are underway, the office team will work remotely, and we hope to move in later this spring. Executive Director, Clare Risman shares details on the decision and preparations for St. George's Society's future.

Members of St. George’s Society of New York joined us for our 251st Annual General Meeting held virtually on Wednesday 27th January 2021. The virtual gathering reported on 2020’s activities and successes as well as plans for 2021. A key item of business was to elect the Board of Directors including the incoming class of Directors.

Volunteer Spotlight: Dylan Radcliff
Looking for something to occupy his newly acquired free time and a way to give back amidst the pandemic, Dylan’s interest was piqued when he came across St. George’s Society New York on social media. Soon after, he began volunteering with the Society and has since worked on a variety of fascinating projects including what is affectionately called “The Stanton Collection”.

Introducing Our New Executive Director

William R. Miller CBE KStJ
We are deeply saddened to share the passing of longtime supporter of St. George’s Society, William R. Miller CBE KStJ. Bill served as President of the Society from 2001 to 2003 and remained a member of the Society’s Advisory Council until his passing. Under his presidency, the Society founded what is now the Queen Elizabeth II September 11th Garden—of which he was Chairman Emeritus.
Sir Harold Evans
The Society is saddened to report the passing of longtime Advisory Council member, Sir Harold Evans. Sir Harold’s insight and guidance as a member of St. George’s Society’s Advisory Council has been instrumental to our continued success, and he will be greatly missed.
Virtual Town Hall & Semi-AGM [RECORDING]
We raised a glass to all who make our work possible at our virtual Town Hall and Semi-Annual General Meeting. Members, partners, volunteers and donors are the reason St. George’s Society has been able to rise to the challenges caused by the global health crisis. Lady Barbara Judge CBE
The Society is saddened to learn of the death of Lady Barbara Judge CBE. As a member of St. George's Society's Advisory Council, she provided valued guidance on its growth, and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
St. George's Society Awards Scholarships to 24 Students for the 20/21 Academic Year
We are pleased to announce that 24 students from Lehman and Hunter Colleges will receive scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year. The Society’s Scholarship Program serves as an engine of social mobility and equality for inspired but under-resourced students and now more than ever, they need our help. For all of our recipients, the award represents a chance at a brighter future.
The Birthday Gift that Keeps on Giving
St. George’s Society Board member, Mark Aiston, was saddened when he had to cancel his 60th birthday celebrations because of social distancing measures in place during the pandemic. But then he “turned a disappointing situation into something hopeful” when he asked his friends and family to donate to St. George’s Society in lieu of gifts raising over $1200 for The Weatherstone Families Support Fund.
